What size wedding tent do you need?
The right size depends on more than your guest count. How big a dance floor you want, how many bars and buffet tables you need, and whether you have a stage or head table all take up space. Use the table below as a starting point, then tell us your plans and we’ll draw a floor plan that fits.

These sizes assume round tables for every guest, a dance floor with 6 sq ft for each guest dancing (about a third of your guests at once), one bar and one buffet. A bigger dance floor, a second bar, a long buffet line or a stage means you’ll need a bigger tent. Prices include installation and takedown.
Work out your own size
- Seating: 10 sq ft per guest at round tables
- Dance floor: 6 sq ft for each guest dancing. Usually about a third of your guests dance at once, so for 150 guests plan about 300 sq ft, such as an 18’x16′ floor. See all dance floor sizes.
- Each bar: about 100 sq ft
- Each buffet table: about 100 sq ft
- Stage or head table: add its size
Add them up and choose a tent with at least that much space. For example, 150 guests (1,500 sq ft) with an 18’x16′ dance floor (288 sq ft), two bars (200 sq ft) and one buffet (100 sq ft) need about 2,090 sq ft, so a 40’x60′ tent (2,400 sq ft) fits with room to move.
Seating only, without a dance floor? A 20’x40′ seats 80 and a 40’x60′ seats 240. A classic 40’x60′ pole tent is also available from $2,450 with a solid top. For more than 250 guests, call us and we’ll plan the layout with you. See all sizes in our tent rental price guide.
Clear top or solid top?
A clear-top tent lets in daylight and shows the sky and the stars after sunset, which is why it’s the favourite for evening receptions. A solid white top gives full shade and rain cover at a lower price, and it’s the better choice for a hot afternoon.
Walls for wind, rain and cooler evenings
Our most popular wedding walls are Majestic walls: window and clear panels with a zipper down the middle. On a nice evening you unzip them and tie them back like curtains, and if the wind picks up you zip them closed. All our frame tent walls block wind and hold heat. Solid white walls give full privacy. Walls run $20 to $40 per section.
Lighting, draping and the dance floor
- Lighting: 6-arm crystal chandeliers, globe string lights and Edison string lights (see lighting)
- Draping: sheer ceiling and leg draping and ceiling greenery (see draping)
- Dance floor: oak or teak parquet in 3’x4′ sections at $27.50 each, installed inside your tent, from 6’x8′ ($110) to 21’x16′ ($770) (see dance floor sizes and prices)
Spring and fall weddings: heating and flooring
- Heaters: plan one patio heater for every 10’x10′ section of tent. For larger tents, a forced-air propane or diesel heater warms the space without filling the floor with heaters. We rent the propane too. Read more about heated tents.
- Flooring: plastic flooring keeps heels from sinking into the grass, but it follows the shape of the ground. If your lawn is uneven, plywood flooring gives a level, solid floor.

Prefer one price per guest? Our packages include the tent, tables, chairs and more, for 50 guests or more:
- Memories: $36.95 to $39.95 per guest (solid top), with chairs, tables, tent walls, string lights, site inspection, delivery and installation
- Moments: $71.25 to $72.95 per guest, adding linens, a dance floor, dishes, glassware, a bar and setup of tables and chairs
- Milestones: $93.25 to $96.25 per guest, with Chiavari or crossback chairs, harvest tables, Edison lights, ceiling drapes and charger plates
The per-guest price goes down as your guest count goes up. Clear-top versions cost a little more.
Permits
Tents over 646 sq ft (60 m²) need a building permit in Ontario, so most wedding tents do. We supply the engineer drawings, tent anchor drawings and fire retardant certificates, or we can get the permit for you. See tent permits.
How booking works
- Book early: summer Saturdays fill up, so book 2 to 3 months ahead for a June to September wedding.
- Free site visit: for tented weddings within 20 km of our South Ajax showroom (Ajax, Pickering, Whitby and Oshawa), we’ll measure your space and make a floor plan.
- Setup the day before: we deliver and install Monday to Saturday between 8 am and 6 pm, and pick up after your wedding. Special time delivery is available.
- Delivery: we deliver all over Ontario. Delivery is priced in your quote, based on your items, location and distance.
- To confirm: a signed contract and a 30% deposit hold your date.
